The last time Julio Gutierrez stood before District Judge John McClendon, he said he understood that violating any one of the conditions of his probation could result in a potential 10-year-prison sentence.
Less than year after the judge put him on 10-years of probation for manslaughter in the 2022 shooting death of his childhood friend during a night of drinking, McClendon sentenced Gutierrez to 10 years in prison after he admitted to violating the bond conditions keeping him away from alcohol, a critical factor, prosecutors argued, in the shooting.
