Flatland Calvary fans rejoice, because the boys from Lubbock have a new one on the way called Work of Heart. Featuring 12 new tracks, the album will be issued on the recently-relaunched Lost Highway record label on March 27th. A new song accompanies the announcement called “On And On,” and it’s a killer little country tune (listen below).
Recorded at Matchbox Studios in Austin, Texas where they’ve worked previously, and produced once again by Dwight A. Baker, Flatland Cavalry looked to capture music that defines their signature sound: easy on the ears, but heavy on the heart. Though their center of gravity these days is just as much in Nashville as it is the Lone Star State, they call the new songs “12 West Texas Vignettes.”
Frontman Cleto Cordero once again writes or co-writes every song on the album, with co-writers including producer Dwight Baker, guitarist Reid Dillon, Aaron Raitiere, Jason Nix, Ryan Beaver, Ray Fulcher, and more. The album also features some cool cover art of an anatomical heart made out of patchwork quilt material.
“This album is a collection of songs of life, love, and loss collected over a season of living, learning, and growing,” says Cordero. “My approach has been the same the whole time in the sense of showing up to write a song with all my heart, my mind, and soul. I think music can do that to us. It can force us to be in the present. Our minds, maybe they’re wandering elsewhere, picking up memories and thoughts and bringing them to the forefront with our bodies in the present.”…
