‘Only 74 years of service’: Lubbock Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority

LUBBOCK, Texas — In honor of Black History Month, EverythingLubbock.com spoke with the Lubbock Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, which has been serving the Lubbock community for 74 years. They were founded on three basic principles: scholarship, public service and sisterhood. These ideals have not changed over time and can be seen through the many programs here in Lubbock.

The Lubbock Alumnae chapter was officially chartered in 1952, before the sorority became a collegiate chapter at Texas Tech University. The Sorority became officially chartered at Texas Tech University in 1970, making them the first historically African-American sorority on the campus and becoming an associate member of Panhellenic.

The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) is a collective of nine historically African-American fraternities and sororities that is also known as “Divine Nine”. Each chapter promotes community awareness action through educational, economic and cultural service activities.
