Corinne Stoddard earns short track bronze, ends eight-year medal drought for United States

MILAN, Italy (KCBD) – In one of the most unpredictable events at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, or any other Olympics- short track speed skating, Corinne Stoddard of Tacoma, Wash. earned bronze in the women’s 1500m Friday at Forum di Milano, becoming the first American to medal in this sport since John-Henry Krueger won silver in 2018 competing in the men’s 1000m.

She’s also the first American woman to medal in short track since Katherine Reutter took silver in the Vancouver Games of 2010 (women’s 1000m).

During Friday’s final, Stoddard was .135 seconds clear of the podium, barely outlasting Jingru Yang of China with a time of 2:32.578. Gilli Kim (2:32.076) and Minjeong Choi (2:32.450)- both of South Korea won gold and silver respectfully…
