I guess everything is about averages, because I certainly see people in Lubbock working day in and day out that are bustin’ rear. I can’t even understand how those Texas Department of Transportation crews get out there on the asphalt during those 100+ degree scorchers. On the other end of the labor spectrum, I know there are doctors who work clinics, hospitals, and more (and are also on call). Yup — we have a workforce here that absolutely gets after it.

That brings us to Wallethub’s latest survey: “The Hardest Working Cities 2026.” Out of 116 entrants, Lubbock placed #50, landing us just above the middle of the pack. Honestly, that’s a pretty respectable finish.
