‘We know what it takes to keep a community going’ East Lubbock residents reflect on decades of change

LUBBOCK, Texas — Lubbock’s population has constantly grown for decades, with a lot of new developments happening all over the city, but more areas than others, with East Lubbock as one of the areas to receive a lack of improvements.

“We need more businesses in our area instead of just fast food places, pizza places, we need some banks, we need a Walmart,” said Sonya Fair, a longtime resident of East Lubbock.

Fair was born and raised in Lubbock and returned after college to take care of her parents.

“This is home, and the cost of living is reasonable. I just felt like I needed to be back here. Plus, my parents were getting older, had health problems, and I’m the oldest, so I moved back to kind of take care of them until they passed away,” said Fair…
