Texas Tech notches Big 12 road sweep of UCF

ORLANDO, Fla. — After inclement weather halted the first part of its Florida road trip, No. 3 Texas Tech softball finally arrived in Orlando for its next Big 12 series with No. 25 UCF. The Knights gave the Red Raiders a scare early but couldn’t keep up throughout the weekend in another Texas Tech sweep.

In Friday’s opener, Texas Tech’s high-octane offense was stifled by UCF. However, Red Raiders ace NiJaree Canady was able to return the favor in a complete-game performance. She tossed five shutout innings while allowing six hits, three earned runs and struck out eight Knights batters. Her heroics earned her the win and moved her season record to 11-2.

While they couldn’t get the amount of hits and runs they’re used to, Texas Tech made the most of each of its opportunities. Three of the four Red Raider runs came off of home runs, with Mihyia Williams and Jackie Lis’ back-to-back blasts in the 6th inning proving to be the difference in the tight 4-3 contest.

Kaitlyn Terry gets second Big 12 Player of the Week award

Saturday’s affair began in another pitching duel, with two-way star Kaitlyn Terry taking the circle for Texas Tech. After a not-so-great outing in the series with Arizona, Terry went lights out. She tossed a complete six-inning scoreless game while allowing only four hits and tallying five strikeouts. She increased her spotless record to 12-0 on the year…
