Lubbock woman sentenced after fatal 2021 collision

LUBBOCK, Texas — Brittany Gonzales was sentenced by a judge on Wednesday afternoon after entering an open plea for two counts of manslaughter. She was sentenced to two years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and five years of deferred adjudication after a 2021 incident where she ran a red light, resulting in the death of her two cousins. Her sentences will run concurrently.

EverythingLubbock.com previously reported that on January 7, 2021, Lubbock authorities responded to an early morning crash in the 4600 block of 4th Street.

Court documents had revealed that Jennifer Garza asked one of her cousins to pick her up from the bar due to her being intoxicated. When the cousin arrived at the bar, Jennifer, Joe Garza and Gonzales came out to talk with her.
