‘Bell Fire’ in Dickens County burns 450+ acres, at 10% containment

LUBBOCK, Texas — Multiple agencies responded to a large grass fire on Thursday a few miles north of Dickens just off Highway 70.

According to information from the Texas A&M Forest Service, the Bell Fire was about 450 acres and at 10% containment as of Wednesday evening. Multiple crews responded along with Dickens, Spur, Floydada and Motley Volunteer Fire Departments, among other agencies.

The Texas Department of Transportation said Highway 70 north of Dickens is closed due to the fire.

Dickens County is under a Red Flag Warning through 8 p.m. on Friday…
