Outside the brand-new Whataburger in Levelland, a full-blown campsite has appeared, because nothing says “college priorities” like staking your future on burgers. Gage, a college student with laser focus and apparently zero midterms to worry about, has been camped out since 11 a.m. yesterday, guarding his spot like it’s the last parking space at the Tech game.
His setup? Impressive. A clear tent (so everyone can witness the dedication), a small bed, and a chair positioned strategically at the front door like he’s waiting to rush a concert barricade, but instead of a guitar pick, the prize is fried goodness and bragging rights.
And yes, before you ask, this isn’t just about being first for the vibes. There’s a rumor (and a very believable one) that the first customer through the doors could score free Whataburger for a year. While Levelland hasn’t officially confirmed the exact promo, Whataburger has a long history of rewarding grand opening diehards with exactly that, often giving the first dine-in and drive-thru customers a year’s worth of meals.
So is Gage crazy? Maybe a little.
