‘He will be dearly missed’: Slaton community mourns loss of beloved high school teacher

SLATON, Texas — The Slaton community mourns the death of high school teacher, Leo Schneider, after he was tragically killed in a head-on collision.

Bode Arnold, 28, was arrested by the Texas Department of Public Safety on Sunday, March 29, for Intoxication Manslaughter with a vehicle.

Schneider was 72-years-old and he taught science at Slaton ISD for over 30 years.

“He always taught science for us. He was great. He was so good at it. The kids, some of the memories that I’ve seen the kids talk about or post about have been his experiments that he did with them and the memories they’ll have of that. So, he really touched lives through science and supported kids,” said Shelli Conkin, Slaton ISD Superintendent.
