Statewide emergency warning systems drill to take place on April 2

LUBBOCK, Texas — This Thursday, a statewide drill for local public warning systems will happen between the times, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

According to the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), the drill’s purpose is to make sure Texans can be notified efficiently in times of disasters and emergencies.

“Most mass notification systems, you can get an email, you can get a text message and you can get a voice call. So, a lot of that is going on at the same time. Will it overload the network system, the telephone network?” asked Clinton Thetford, Lubbock’s County Emergency Management Coordinator.
