SHALLOWATER, Texas (KCBD) – The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality notified the City of Shallowater its public water system exceeded the Maximum Contaminant Level for combined uranium.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has established the MCL for combined uranium to be 30 micrograms per liter based on the running annual average. An assessment of drinking water in Shallowater for combined uranium shows a compliance value of 36 mg/L.
The EPA has determined that water containing uranium in excess is a health concern. Some people who drink water at levels above the MCL over many years may have an increased risk of getting cancer and kidney toxicity…
