LUBBOCK, Texas — According to Feeding America, nearly 60,000 people in Lubbock County experience food insecurity.
The South Plains Food Bank is headquartered in Lubbock, but serves 19 counties. This year, the food bank changed its distribution system, bringing distribution sites into neighborhoods through churches and other non-profits starting around Lubbock.
“They know the people who live in the area and more importantly, the people in this area know them,” said Dina Jeffries, CEO of South Plains Food Bank. “It just makes it an easy distribution for them to come to a known entity and already feel at ease, rather than going someplace where they may not know anybody.”…
