AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Golden Spread Council, the regional council of Scouting America for the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles, announced Tuesday it will merge with the South Plains Council based out of Lubbock.
The GSC’s Executive Board approved the plan for the merger during its Tuesday meeting, according to the public announcement. The GSC and SPC are expected to begin working together during May, and the merger will be official on June 1.

As described on its website, the GSC has previously included a 27-county geographical area in the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles, divided into three districts: Adobe Walls District in the southeast, Lone Wolf District in the north, and Golden Eagle District in the southwest. It is also covered in its entirety by the Quanah Parker ScoutReach Division. Its administrative office has been located at the Scout Service Center in Amarillo.
The SPC, meanwhile, has included 20 counties split up into five districts: Haynes District, Comanche Trails District, Quanah Parker District, George White District, and Chaparral District.
Together, the GSC said the merged council will serve 46 counties and add two camp properties, including C.W. Post Memorial Scout Camp and Tres Ritos Scout Camp in New Mexico…
