‘Everything I had planned was with him’: Lubbock woman shares warning on drunk driving

LUBBOCK, Texas — It has been two years since Alex Noyola Castanon was killed by a drunk driver who was driving the wrong way on Highway 87 and the FM 1585 overpass.

Castanon’s longtime girlfriend, Mireya Ocegueda, 23, continues to carry on his legacy and takes every chance she gets to warn others about the dangers of driving under the influence.

“The concept he’s not coming back, I feel it’s still really hard to grasp because there are moments where I’m having a really hard day at work or stressed, he’s the person that I would have called to talk to,” said Ocegueda.

Thursday, April 23, 2026, was supposed to be Ocegueda and Castanon’s four-year anniversary, and the two had talked about living a long life together.

“Definitely, still a very hard month for me. It’s only been two years since he’s been gone. We were supposed to get engaged this year, start planning our wedding and I’m like, those are things that were going to happen. Because of what happened, now I don’t know where my life is headed,” said Ocegueda…
