‘We will forever carry your legacy’: Lubbock classmates honor Kobe Alonzo with memorial photo

LUBBOCK, Texas — Family and friends gathered on Wednesday morning to honor the life of Kobe Lee Alonzo, 18, who tragically lost his life on January 1, 2026, when a firework he was holding went off near his head, causing serious injuries that ultimately led to his death.

The Monterey Class of 2026 used their senior skip day to honor their fallen classmate, Kobe, at the Lubbock Cemetery. They gathered together to take a school photo in his memory.

Kynzely Alonzo, sister of Kobe Alonzo, spoke with EverythingLubbock.com about her brother’s life. She emphasized his incredible resilience and the bright energy he brought to his classmates.

“Kobe was the light in everyone’s day. He would always come in and always be smiling and make other people smile,” Kynzely said.
