Dear Editor: There’s a legal maxim that “hard cases make bad law.” Madison is facing one of those right now, and it behooves us to proceed delicately.
The March 15 raid on Ridglan Farms involved breaking and entering, and no honest person can argue otherwise. It’s equally difficult to allege nefarious intent, since the activists were clearly motivated by sincere, humane, caring concern for the beagles in that facility.
Thus the quandary: How is justice best served in this case?…
