MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – For nearly two weeks, businesses along Williamson Street found themselves in the middle of protests, road closures and a community grieving the fatal officer-involved shooting of Corey Ruiz.
Now that the demonstrations have quieted down and traffic is once again moving through the Williamson and South Baldwin streets intersection, business owners say they’re finally beginning to see signs of normalcy return.
“It’s just kind of been… tense and slow… up until I’d say today,” said Nathan Prince, owner of Willalby’s Cafe. “For the first time in a long time, people were talking and smiling and laughing.”
But Prince said getting to that point wasn’t easy…
