Two Madison chefs and one Madison restaurant named James Beard Award semifinalists

Two Madison chefs have been named semifinalists in the 2024 James Beard Awards , plus one Madison restaurant is being recognized for hospitality and positive community contributions.

The chefs on the list from Madison are:

Sean Pharr of Mint Mark in the category of Best Chef Midwest

-Syovata Edari of CocoVaa in the category of Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker

The restaurant on the list from Madison is:

Pasture and Plenty in the category of Outstanding Hospitality

James Beard Awards, established in 1991, are prestigious U.S. food industry awards, known as the “Oscars of the food world,” and it’s a significant recognition to be selected as a semifinalist.

Sean Pharr of Mint Mark is nominated for Best Chef Midwest.

Sean Pharr of Mint Mark was named Madison Magazine’s 2023 Chef of the Year. In 2017, Pharr opened Mint Mark at 1929 Winnebago St. with business partners Chad Vogel, Gwen Shales and Kyle Johnson. Later this year, Mint Mark will move to 1868 E. Washington Ave. Pharr also co-owns Muskellounge and Sporting Club and Hank’s (both at 4102 Monona Drive).
