UPDATE: One dead following beltline crash, police searching for suspect

MADISON, Wis. —  Madison police say a person was pronounced dead following a crash which shut down the U.S. Highway 12 beltline for several hours Friday night.

In an update Saturday morning, an MPD spokesperson confirmed a person was hit by a vehicle traveling east bound on the beltline. MPD and MFD attempted life-saving efforts, but they say the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

MPD additionally says the vehicle involved in the incident fled the scene. They believe it was a blue SUV. Investigators are looking for the vehicle which may be a blue 2003- 2009 Lexus GX 470. MPD believes it will likely have damage to the front drivers side headlight area.
