Waunakee native named Cross Plains EMS chief

A Waunakee woman has taken the reins as the chief of the Cross Plains Area EMS.

The Cross Plains Area EMS Board selected Holly Ellickson to lead the department after a candidate interview process and public vote on Jan. 24, according to a news release.

Ellickson has served as the department’s interim chief since Dec. 25 and was the Cross Plans Area EMS deputy chief from Feb. 1, 2023 until then.

She earned her EMT-Basic license in 1997 before joining the Cross Plains Area EMS that year. In her 27 years with the EMS, she has earned her Advanced EMT licensure and and certifications as an Ambulance Documentation Specialist and Infection Control Officer.

“I look forward to shaping the next chapter for Cross Plains Area EMS,” Ellickson said. “I remain keenly focused on providing the best patient outcomes to those we serve. It’s an honor to be entrusted with this new responsibility.”

Located in western Dane County, the Cross Plains Area EMS provides Advanced-Level emergency medical services to the Village of Cross Plains as well as the towns of Cross Plains, Berry and Springfield, with a patient population of about 5,400, according to the news release. The staff includes about 40 volunteer and paid providers.
