‘All I see are headlights’: Bystander describes Monona chase that ended in crash, arrest

MADISON, Wis — A suspect is in custody after a Monona Police chase ended in a crash on the eastbound Beltline early Saturday morning.

In a Facebook post , Monona Police said they were working on a special operation related to “large-scale disturbances, weapons offenses and a near-death overdose at an address in the City of Monona.” They say the chase started when an officer tried to stop the car for speeding and a false temporary registration that connected it to that address.

The driver then led police on a chase going Eastbound on Hwy 12 toward Interstate 90 around 12:50 am before eventually driving off the road and crashing into an embankment. Airbags were deployed in the car and a handgun with an attached laser light was found in the vehicle.

The 31-year-old suspect was arrested on multiple charges including felon in possession of a handgun and felony bail jumping and was taken to the hospital to be checked out before being booked into the Dane County jail.

A driver who was on the road at the time of the chase and asked to remain anonymous spoke exclusively to News 3 Now Saturday to recount the events as she experienced them and shared dash-cam footage of the incident.
