Jimmy returns to Sun Prairie for Groundhog Day Friday

At the crack of dawn in Sun Prairie, community members will gather to see what Jimmy the Groundhog has to say about the arrival of spring.

Will it arrive early? Late?

Only Jimmy knows.

The city’s Groundhog Day ceremony is set for 6:50 a.m., just before the 7:11 a.m. sunrise at Cannery Square. Jimmy’s prognostication will be delivered from the stage and in sign language, as well, with his handlers from Wilderness Walk Zoo, according to a press release from the city.

Rebecca Ribley, a reporter from WKOW will serve as master of ceremonies, which will begin following the color guard’s presentation of the National Anthem.

Local officials Mayor Paul Esser and state Sen. Melissa Agard will also present the governor’s proclamation of Groundhog Day in the State of Wisconsin.

Afterwards, downtown shops will be open to explore and photo ops will be available with the special Jimmy the Groundhog Mascot, Sun Prairie East Kurt the Cardinal and Sun Prairie West Wolf.
