Henry Mathew Montrey III

Henry Mathew Montrey III, age 79, of McFarland, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024, at UW Hospital and Clinics. He was born on July 7, 1944, in Richmond, Va., the son of Henry Montrey Jr. and Grace (Adams) Montrey.

Henry graduated from Riverview Gardens High School in St. Louis, Mo., in the class of 1962. He married Lynne York on June 11, 1966. After working his way through college in the ROTC program, Henry served in the U.S. Army and enjoyed a very successful career as an engineer and senior manager in the forest products industry, at both The Weyerhaeuser Company and the U.S. Forest Service. He retired from Weyerhaeuser in 2006.

Henry was a member of Full Gospel Church of Edgar Springs, Mo., and a proud alumnus of the Missouri School of Mines (now called Missouri S&T) in Rolla, Mo. He received master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin and MIT, and his Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics from the University of Wisconsin.

In addition to his five children and 13 grandchildren, Henry had many faithful friends from childhood, college and career who loved and deeply respected him. He was known by many to be a great leader, sincere and without guile. He excelled in multiple sports and was an avid jogger, hiker and cyclist. He loved dogs, his farm cats, computer technology, spicy food and being extraordinarily generous.
