Waunakee police administer Narcan to man who overdosed while driving

WESTPORT, Wis. — Dane County Sheriff’s officials said a Waunakee police officer gave Narcan to a man who overdosed while driving late Sunday night.

Officials said the incident occurred along County Highway Q in the town of Westport just before midnight. A 39-year-old Friendship man was reported unresponsive after overdosing on heroin.

The man’s passenger, a 27-year-old Madison man, reportedly saw that the driver was losing consciousness and was able to guide the vehicle they were in off the road and into a driveway.

Waunakee police gave the driver Narcan and he regained a pulse and consciousness. He was taken to a hospital and later arrested for operating while intoxicated-fourth offense as well as felony bail jumping and multiple warrants.

Police said the passenger was also arrested for felony bail jumping.
