First responders cut through SUV windows to free driver, child in Capitol Square rollover crash

MADISON, Wis. — One adult and one child were taken to the hospital Monday after a rollover crash near the Capitol Square.

First responders were called to the 100 block of W. Washington Ave. at about 11 a.m. Monday to find an SUV on its side, resting on the driver’s side door. According to the Madison Fire Department, the car’s doors were locked and the driver was unable to reach the controls to unlock the doors.

Firefighters from Ladder Co. 1 worked to stabilize the SUV while crews broke through the back window of the SUV in order to get to a child who was stuck inside a car seat. First responders took care of the child while crews continued to work to free the driver from the car by cutting the windshield off of the SUV.
