Madison police arrest man who made threats to Dean Health Plan office

MADISON, Wis. — Madison police were called to Dean Health Plan’s Madison office Thursday afternoon due to a security threat, staff confirmed to News 3 Now.

In a statement, Dean Health Plan spokesperson Scott Culver said that threat arose at the office on Deming Way after the insurance agency announced a plan to lay off some staff. Culver did not specify when the announcement was made or when the threat was first reported.

“The safety of our employees is our top priority and we have shut access off to all buildings on campus,” Culver said. “All employees and contractors have safely evacuated the campus.”

In an update, Madison police said officers were called to the office at around 10:05 a.m. after a 50-year-old man began making threats after he was told he was being laid off.

Officers arrested the man at his home and he allegedly admitted to “being upset and randomly saying things in response.”

News 3 Now is not naming the man at this time as part of a policy not to name people accused of crimes until they have been formally charged in court. Click here to learn more about the policy .
