First Alert Weather: Groundhog Day slightly cooler, record setting highs possible this weekend

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – Groundhog Day Friday will turn slightly cooler than previous days here in North Central Wisconsin. But sunshine should remain, along with temperatures running back to the 40s over the weekend. Record highs will be possible this weekend and through next work week. Afternoon temperatures will run roughly 20 to 25 degrees above average for this time of the year. Many locations in Central Wisconsin have lost all the snowpack, and it is dwindling in the north. Friday is Groundhog Day and Jimmy the Groundhog in Sun Prairie is expected to not see his shadow around daybreak on Friday due to cloud cover in southern Wisconsin. By folklore standards, this would signal an early spring.
