Waunakee Tribune to take over Waunakee Community Garage Sales event

While planning is underway for Waunakee’s spring garage sales, a subtle change in leadership is taking place.

This year, the Waunakee Tribune will be the organizer, allowing Leonard and Becky Allen of Christian Life Assembly to fully step down and the Optimist Club to bow out.

The Tribune staff have worked on the sales with the Allens and the Optimists the last two years. Now, the newspaper staff have taken over the website while the company will continue to print the maps as has been done in the past.

“Hopefully, most people won’t notice that there’s a change, and I think that’s a good thing,” said Robert Ireland, director of business development with Adams Publishing Group.

In his role, Ireland has other experience organizing large events such as food festivals in other communities.

He noted that the newspaper has historically printed the magazine with the listings and maps, and sold larger display ads into it, while the volunteers had handled the garage sale ads.

“This is not a project that we have to take over and reinvent,” Ireland said. “It’s a project that has really good bones. We just have different resources.”
