Police find gun in residence hall while investigating assault at Edgewood College

MADISON, Wis. — Madison police investigating an assault at Edgewood College found an unloaded gun in the alleged attacker’s dorm room, administrators said Wednesday.

According to a spokesperson for the school, a student reported being physically assaulted by another student Tuesday evening in the Wingra Cafe area. Madison police officers were called in to investigate.

The spokesperson said that during their investigation, officers searched the suspect’s room and found an unloaded gun and ammunition. The student was arrested and faces charges for carrying a gun on campus.

Edgewood’s Student Development team has temporarily removed the student from campus, and the team along with campus security are cooperating with Madison police.

” Edgewood College treats this as a serious matter,” administrators said in a statement. ” Violence of any kind on our campus is not tolerated. The unauthorized presence of firearms on campus is not tolerated.”

The name of the student who was arrested was not released.
