Evansville community comes together for tornado cleanup

EVANSVILLE, Wis. — Wisconsin’s first February tornadoes in history left a path of destruction in their wake. Now, with almost all roads in the area reopened, the Evansville community is coming together to begin the long journey to rebuild.

“I really love a sunrise, but that day was scary,” Heidi Crull said standing in the remains of her family’s farm that was severely damaged in the storm. “Yesterday morning was surreal, to open your eyes and to see everything.”

Her son Patrick and his girlfriend Ashley James were home on the farm when the tornado hit.

” I was watching it. I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s crazy,’ James said. “It’s far enough away where I wasn’t too worried, but the closer it got, it got scarier. We ran down to the basement and we just hear glass smashing like everything. I got over my dog and then he got over me and we’re just huddled in the laundry room downstairs, but within like a minute like everything was done and we got back upstairs to see like the damage.”

What they found was a their home destroyed, unrecognizable from how it had been just minutes before.
