Rock County officials say 31 homes damaged in Evansville tornado

EVANSVILLE, Wis. — The count of homes damaged in one of last week’s tornadoes that touched down in Rock County is now 31, emergency management officials said Monday.

In total, three homes were destroyed, 10 sustained major damage, 11 sustained minor damage and seven others were somewhat affected. The damage assessments were made using the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Damage Assessment Criteria.

Rock County was impacted by two historic tornadoes last week, an EF-1 near Juda and Albany and an EF-2 that cut a path from just south of Evansville to north of Lake Koshkonong.

The tornadoes left hundreds of people without power and prevented some from leaving their homes because of debris-blocked roads, specifically along Gibbs Lake Road. That road reopened over the weekend, however, Rock County Emergency Management said 28 meters are still without power.

Officials are expected to give another update on Wednesday at 2 p.m. There will be a community gathering for residents impacted by the Evansville tornado at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Evansville High School auditorium, located at 640 South 5th Street in Evansville.
