MOUNT HOREB, Wis. — This week, school bus drivers in Wisconsin are being recognized for their work safely transporting students to and from school.
Since 1976, School Bus Driver Appreciation Week has been held during the second full week in February.
The state of Wisconsin has more than 12,000 school bus drivers who drive students to and from school each weekday. In total – the state’s bus drivers travel an average of 144 million miles a year.
On Tuesday, the Mount Horeb School District honored their school bus drivers by holding a breakfast for them.
“I think it’s nice to have the drivers recognized. It’s not an easy job, you know, but there are rewards. But it is definitely, like anything, being appreciated for what you do. And having a week like that spending here, we appreciate it,” said substitute bus driver Ray McKay. “I think it makes things even that much more brighter.”
