National Weather Service says Evansville tornado wider, on ground longer than previously estimated

EVANSVILLE, Wis. — The National Weather Service says additional analysis has shown last week’s tornado in the Evansville area was wider and on the ground longer than initially thought.

In an update Wednesday, officials said aerial data and additional reports indicate the Evansville tornado was 750 yards wide at its peak, up from the original estimation of 500 yards wide made after damage assessments last week.

The updated track of the Evansville tornado shows it first touched down southwest of Magnolia, between Highway 59 and Highway A, and stretched beyond Lake Koshkonong.

The National Weather Service says that tornado will remain categorized as an EF-2, but most of the path was at EF-1 levels, with the EF-2 damage largely being contained to the area northeast of Evansville.

Additionally, the National Weather Service says it was able to confirm one additional injury from the tornado, which happened when a car was pushed off the road.

Rock County officials say 31 homes damaged in Evansville tornado

EVANSVILLE, Wis. — The count of homes damaged in one of last week’s tornadoes that touched down in Rock County is now 31, emergency management officials said Monday.
