Sheridan Wisconsin, formerly known as Webcrafters, to shut down

MADISON, Wis. — Sheridan Wisconsin, formerly known as Webcrafters, is shutting down its facility on Madison’s north side and laying off more than 100 employees, according to a notice sent to the state’s Department of Workforce Development.

In a letter sent to the state and the office of Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway on Monday , Sheridan cited a “significant downturn in business at the Madison location” at 2211 Fordem Avenue as a reason for the permanent closure.

In shutting down the Madison location, the company told the state it is laying off a total of 116 people. Of those, 12 are salary positions and 104 are hourly positions.

According to the state notice, layoffs will begin on April 13 and will be done in phases until the facility closes for good on June 28.

The company says employees will be paid all earned wages and benefits at the time of their termination.

Sheridan Wisconsin Layoff Notice

Webcrafters’ origins in Madison date back to 1868 and was owned by the Frautschi family since the 1950s before the company was sold to Minnesota-based CJK Group in 2017. As part of that sale, Webcrafters was rebranded to Sheridan Wisconsin.
