Equipment clearing snow tips over edge of Hill Farms parking ramp

MADISON, Wis. — The Madison Fire Department responded after a piece of heavy equipment being used to clear snow tipped over the edge of a parking ramp Thursday morning.

Fire department officials tell News 3 Now that the machinery operator was clearing snow from the top level of the parking ramp at Hill Farms and was dumping snow over the edge of the building when the telehandler tipped forward.

The machinery operator was able to climb out of the back window and get to safety.

The Madison Fire Department’s Heavy Urban Rescue team responded and secured the piece of machinery to ensure it didn’t fall over the edge.

The contractor that was hired to clear the snow added to the pile of snow under the telehandler to help change the leverage point, allowing a tow truck to pull the telehandler back over the ledge and onto the roof of the parking ramp.
