MADISON, Wis. — Changes to the state’s current legislative districts could see voters change who represents them in the state Capitol, and could see lawmakers out of a job as they are moved into the same district and have to compete against members of their own party.
A comparison by News 3 Now between the current maps and the proposed maps shows that the Madison area state Senate districts shift slightly eastward, and also pit two incumbent Democrats against each other.
Sen. Melissa Agard, who represents the east side of Madison, would be drawn in the central-Madison district represented by Sen. Kelda Roys, meaning the two Democrats would have to run against each other in this fall’s election.
Agard however, is running for Dane County executive, and could give up her state Senate seat if she wins.
According to an analysis by WisPolitics.com , these would be the only two Senate Democrats forced to run against each other, while nine Senate Republicans would be drawn into districts occupied by other incumbent Republicans.
