Body of man who drowned near Merrimac Saturday afternoon is found

Update: The 63-year-old male was located and recovered from the water by divers with assistance from Wisconsin DNR at approximately 1:13 p.m.

Columbia County Sheriff’s office said the man was in the water in the area off Tipperary Road north of Tipperary Point in the Town of Dekorra when he went underwater.

The name of the male was not released.


MERRIMAC, Wis. —  The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office says a person drowned on the Wisconsin River/ Lake Wisconsin near Merrimac Saturday afternoon. The victim was 63 years-old.

In a press release, CCSO says the county dispatch center received several 911 calls Saturday around 1:53 pm. The CCSO Dive Team was brought to the area to respond and begin search efforts.

According to the sheriff’s office, the 63 year-old man was not found, and an evening search was called off due to darkness. They will resume Sunday morning.
