Deerfield/Cambridge Cross Country: Emme Drobac wins Midwest Invite

The Midwest Invitational features some of the top runners from Wisconsin and Illinois.

The race, held at Blackhawk Golf Course in Janesville, brings in over 50 teams to the area during the final week of September.

With over 300 runners competing in the girls race, Deerfield junior Emme Drobac still came out on top on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Drobac won the 5,000-meter girls race in 17 minutes and 45.9 seconds, finishing just seven seconds behind the all-time course record.

Drobac’s first-place finish helped the girls team finish ninth out of 46 teams with 323 points.

Senior McKenna Michel (19:52.90) ran 42nd, senior Piper Ryan (20:10.20) placed 55th, freshman Vienna Olson (20:33.21) scored 75th and junior Arden Nickerson (22:02.30) scored 157th. Neenah won the girls race with 70 points.

The boys team took 52nd with 1,579 points. Sophomore Max Helminiak (19:31.20) and senior Evan Roidt (19:31.50) ran 297th and 298th.

Senior James Leonard (20:06.40) took 321st, senior Kayden Hahn (21:59.10) scored 350th and senior Thomas Connor (21:59.80) finished 351st.
