MADISON, Wis. — Madison police cited over 100 people for underage drinking following an inspection at a Regent Street bar Friday night.
Police said dozens of fake IDs were confiscated during the inspection. A total of 131 people were cited, equal to about 82% of the bar’s lawful capacity.
MPD spokesperson Stephanie Fryer said the most common citations written during bar checks include:
- Underage Person Not to Possess or Consume Alcohol Beverage on Licensed Premises
- Underage Person Enters or Attempts to Enter Licensed Premises
- Underage Person Intentionally Carrying ID Not Theirs or Carrying Altered or Duplicated to Convey False Information
- Resisting Arrest or Obstructing
Most of those citations carry a fine between $376-$1,006, however a citation for resisting or obstructing carries a $439 fine.
If you’re caught drinking underage, Fryer said cooperating with officers and being honest about your name, date of birth and if you have a false ID will typically result in only being issued a single citation.
