Bobcat cancels outdoor recess for Yahara Elementary students

DEFOREST, Wis. — Students at Yahara Elementary School in DeForest had to spend their recess indoors on Wednesday due to a furry visitor.

A bobcat was seen close to the school, Principal Kyle Koenig said in a message to families shared with News 3 Now. Students were kept inside “out of an abundance of caution.”

Koenig said the school was in contact with the DeForest Police Department and the bobcat was moving away from campus, though it was still in the area as of Wednesday afternoon.

District spokesperson Kathy Williams clarified that the bobcat was spotted just after the start of the school day. Usual instruction and activities were not interrupted, except that students were kept inside. The school was not locked down.
