Madison family of 4 displaced by kitchen fire

MADISON, Wis — A Madison family of four had to find a different place to stay Wednesday after a fire at their apartment.

The Madison Fire Department responded to reports of smoke in an apartment in the 4700 block of Thurston Lane just before 2:45 p.m. Crews arrived to find smoke visible from all sides of the building and signs of fire on the second floor.

Firefighters found fire in a kitchen. An MFD spokesperson said most of the fire had already been put out by a maintenance worker using a fire extinguisher. MFD crews used water to put out the remaining flames, and ventilated the unit and hallways.

Nobody was hurt and everyone in the apartment evacuated safely. The displaced family is being helped by the American Red Cross.
