MADISON, Wis. — A man was in custody Tuesday following two crashes along the eastbound Beltline on Madison’s south side.
Police said the crashes occurred Monday morning at around 10:35 a.m. A van rear-ended a vehicle but didn’t stop, then rolled over along the exit ramp from the Beltline to Todd Drive. Two people allegedly ran from the van.
The rear-ended vehicle followed the van and gave responding officers photos of the suspects.
Officers located the van driver, a 39-year-old man, in the 3300 block of Leopold Way and arrested him. He faces charges of operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent, hit and run and failing to maintain control.
News 3 Now is not naming the driver at this time as part of a policy not to name people accused of crimes until they have been formally charged in court. Click here to learn more about the policy .
