Children as young as one year old ate THC-contaminated food from Wisconsin pizzeria

STOUGHTON, Wis. — More than 60 people ate THC-contaminated food from a Stoughton pizzeria last week, Public Health Madison and Dane County said Wednesday.

According to PHMDC, Famous Yeti’s Pizza served the contaminated food between Oct. 22 and Oct. 24. Pizza was contaminated as well as grinder sandwiches, garlic bread and cheese bread.

It is unclear how much THC was in each product. PHMDC said over 25 people checked into an emergency room because of symptoms experienced after eating contaminated food. Less than five people were hospitalized for at least one night. Additionally, PHMDC said children as young as one year old ate the contaminated food and got sick.

PHMDC said last week that the contamination was unintentional. Famous Yeti’s works out of a building with a shared industrial kitchen. On Oct. 22, a worker making pizza ran out of oil. He grabbed a jug of oil off of a shelf in the shared kitchen and used that.

The oil was in a clear jug that looked like other cooking oils, however there was a label on the cap noting that it contained Delta-9 cannabis. There was no other labeling on the rest of the bottle.
