PLANNING THE NEXT 24 HOURS: By Wednesday afternoon, the cold front will slide through sparking a line of showers and storms that should wrap up by the morning hours on Thursday. A few strong to severe thunderstorms remain possible, although the greatest chance of severe weather is from Madison and areas west into southwestern Wisconsin. As these storms travel further east they are expected to weaken some. Though, if we are able to see this line hold as it enters Wisconsin, strong wind gusts will be our biggest threat, although an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. Due to the increasing late-season severe weather threat, the First Warn Weather Team has called for an ALERT DAY Wednesday night. This system will likely bring about .25-1″ of rainfall, a few areas could see 1-2″ in the localized areas of heaviest rainfall, especially west of Madison. The timeline of this system will be roughtly 5pm-2am with the greatest threat for the Madison metro from 9pm-12am.
