FITCHBURG, Wis. — Fitchburg police arrested a man Tuesday who they said was suspected in a burglary at a senior apartment building.
Antonio Lane, 29, of Madison is charged with felony burglary and misdemeanor theft. Those charges stem from an alleged Oct. 31 burglary at a senior apartment building in the 2000 block of Traceway Drive.
Police said Lane broke into a package room and took multiple packages that were waiting to be picked up by residents. He is also suspected in an allege theft from the office of the same building earlier in October.
An off-duty Fitchburg police officer reputedly spotted Lane at a grocery store in Madison Tuesday evening. On-duty officers then responded to the store and arrested him as he was heading for his vehicle. An allegedly stolen laptop was found in the vehicle.
A search of Lane’s apartment allegedly uncovered stolen property and other evidence.
During an initial appearance on Thursday, Lane was given a signature bond. As a condition of his bond, he must submit to GPS tracking, cannot be on Traceway Drive in Fitchburg and cannot leave Dane County.
