Group files paperwork seeking special prosecutor in beagle breeder case

MADISON, Wis. — A group seeking a special prosecutor in a case against Ridglan Farms has submitted the necessary paperwork requested to move the case forward.

It could potentially open up an investigation into the Blue Mounds beagle breeder. Judge Rhonda Lanford previously asked the petitioners to submit a post-hearing brief by Friday.

The petitioners, made up of Dane4Dogs, Alliance for Animals and Wayne Hsiung, write in the post-hearing brief submitted Friday and provided to News 3 Now that after years of repeated efforts to get Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne to take up the case, Ozanne has refused to open an investigation. The group also believes there is probable cause that “Ridglan has committed a criminal offense.”

News 3 Now has reached out for comment to the attorney representing Ridglan Farms but has yet to receive a reply.

Judge Lanford said on October 23 that once she received the post-hearing brief, she would rule promptly on whether to appoint a special prosecutor. As of time of publish nothing has been placed on the court’s schedule.
