‘Way better than last year’: Parents, district weigh in on MMSD school bus service this year

MADISON, Wis.- We’re about three months into the school year in the Madison Metropolitan School District and almost two years into MMSD’s contract with First Student bus services. After a rocky first year, News 3 Now went to the district and parents for a progress report.

Spinning on an Elver Park playground carousel Friday, Jay Mishra said this year he’s no longer worried about things spinning out of control when he gets his kids on the bus to Olson Elementary every morning.

“We don’t feel any trouble this year, which is way better than last year,” Mishra said.

Last year was First Student Inc.’s first year operating school buses for MMSD.

At that time, News 3 Now brought you stories from parents who said their kids’ buses were late in the morning, dropped them off late sometimes after five in the evening – or in one instance dropping a child off at the wrong bus stop, forcing them to ask a stranger for a ride home.
