Midvale Boulevard bike lane plan suspended over parking concerns

After the prospect of losing on-street parking to new bike lanes stirred opposition from some northern Midvale Boulevard homeowners, city officials announced this week that more alternatives would be considered, delaying the target date for construction.

Under the city’s initial plans, nearly all parking on the boulevard — from Mineral Point Road to University Avenue — would have been eliminated, making room for bike lanes. The project would have also improved pedestrian crossings at intersections and resurfaced the entire section for the first time since 2005.

But at a Jan. 30 public information meeting, several residents argued the current lack of bicyclists using northern Midvale Boulevard indicates there is little demand for bike lanes on the roadway, as city engineers proposed…
